From Home to Rome
Under the baton of guest conductor André Raphel and featuring the virtuosic talents of violinist Jennifer Frautschi, the DSO proudly presents From Home to Rome.
Our performance opens with Verdi’s compelling Overture to La forza del destino, traversing a range of emotions, alternating between moments of light and darkness before culminating in a resounding finale. The concert continues with Beethoven’s timeless Violin Concerto and West Chester, Pennsylvania native, Samuel Barber’s Symphony in One Movement — an innovative adaptation of the traditional symphonic form condensed into a single captivating movement. We complete the program with Ottorino Respighi’s majestic tone poem, Pines of Rome, which paints vivid musical portraits of contemporary and ancient scenes from the Eternal City.
