Ashley SK Davis is a dancer, choreographer, actor and teaching artist.   A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Ashley’s early training in dance and drama began at Christina Cultural Arts Center, under the tutelage of Zadia Ife, Heidi Yancey, and Chauntee Andrews.   Her formal dance training continued through studies at the Dance Theatre of Harlem and Eleone Dance Theatre.   Ashley earned her B.A. in Philosophy at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, where she was active in the arts community on campus.   As a member of the Spelman College Dance Theatre, Ashley had the opportunity train under Kenneth Green (Six Flags; Disney), Nathan Trice (nathantrice/RITUALS), and Alan Gartrell (Atlanta Dance Connection; Milwaukee Dance Exchange).

After graduation, Ashley returned to Wilmington and founded Pieces of a Dream, Inc. a modern dance company, for which she serves as Executive & Artistic Director.   Now in its 11th season, Pieces of a Dream, Inc. produces an annual concert in March, wherein they explore socially meaningful and culturally relevant topics, such as domestic violence, homelessness, and the 1968 National Guard occupation of Wilmington.   Ashley also heads the Pieces of a Dream Academy of Dance, the company’s training arm, that provides instruction to students ages two through adult.  Ashley has also choreographed for the City of Wilmington’s Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, Delaware Shakespeare Festival’s Pericles, Bootless Artworks’ Passing Strange, and the Spelman College Department of Drama and Dance 75th Anniversary Celebration.   Most recently Ashley served as the Assistant Artistic Director for “Same Story, Different Countries", a multi-disciplinary concert produced by the University of Delaware Department of Dance that explores the similarities between the “Black Experience" in the United States and South Africa.

Ashley has found great joy in encouraging children to discover their inner artist.   In addition to teaching lessons at a variety of regional dance studios, she also conducted dance classes at several schools in the area, including Serviam Girls Academy, Lewis Elementary School, and First State Ballet Theatre’s school outreach programs.   For the past nine years, Ashley has served as a Teaching Artist in Drama and Dance for the Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education (DIAE) and Delaware Wolf Trap, where she uses dance and theatre techniques to encourage learning and enhance student engagement with the daily curriculum in Delaware schools.   As the newly instated Artistic Director of DIAE, Ashley looks forward to expanding the reach of DIAE, to more fully establish aesthetic education experiences as a standard for classrooms throughout the state.
