City Theater Company
City Theater Company (CTC) is entering its 30th season as "Delaware's Off-Broadway experience." CTC was launched in 1994 by three University of Delaware graduates with the goal to provide audiences with thought-provoking, edgy, intimate artistic experiences.
The Company produces two to three mainstage and one "new works" piece each season. Its hallmarks are edgy content (Hedwig & the Angry Inch, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, ART); seldom-seen plays (Angels in America, Passing Strange) and World Premieres (Neverland, Homeland Security, Blues in My Soul, AfterBirth of a Nation); classics with a “CTC twist" (A Little Night Music, HAIR, Xanadu, La Cage Aux Folles, Mamma Mia!); and original pieces by established and emerging local playwrights (Comfort & Joy, Blues in My Soul, AfterBirth of A Nation by David Robson; Rehoboth by Richard Gaw). Their platform gives emerging playwrights and young artists a forum for expression (Casarino Royale, By George!, Cruel, Calm & Neglected). The Company also houses a comedy improv team, Fearless Improv, which performs in varying spaces throughout Delaware and provides educational classes and camps for youth and adults.
As Theater-In-Residence at its performance home at The Wings Black Box at The Delaware Contemporary, CTC and Fearless produce in a unique, 90-seat industrial space near the Wilmington waterfront. This partnership -- unique to the Delaware region -- allows both organizations to collaborate and expand upon and even change the idea of what art is and what it can be --- including costume design, set construction and design, improv comedy, and more!
