David Ashworth Burslem
Over the past 58 yrs I have made a living in advertising design, teaching, construction and opening my own Studio Gallery’s in Old Historic New Castle and Arden while continuing to produce colorful, imaginative works of art. My artistic influence comes from University of Delaware professors Charles Rowe, Peter Charles, Byron Shurtleff and other Arden artists that I grew up with: Aurelius Renzetti, Bunni Hurlong, Ash and Mary Burslem, David Smith, the sculptor and abstract expressionist's Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline, Paul Klee, Miro and Salvadore Dali.
Burslem's most recent exhibit last June 2023 was titled "When Pigs Fly", which became his mantra when his cancer returned after 6 years. When the odds said it couldn't be done, David not only produced this exhibit, he has since promoted an Arden's Artists Studio tour, opening Saturday, June 8, 2024
Artist Statement:
"The actual creation of a work of art is a battle of emotions resulting with a feeling of awe and wonder for the finished product".
Although Burslem has worked with many media, his most intriguing creations combine photography, painting and graphic design within a sculptural format. Hi skills learned while working in construction proved to be vital lessons for creating his Sculptural Abstract Landscapes. The tools and materials that he used became an integral part of his creations, especially the use of aluminum as a surface for some of his designs.
David's most recent exhibit entitled "When Pigs Fly" opened last June 2023. After his second round of cancer treatments in 6 years,"When Pigs Fly" became his mantra when they said it couldn't be done.
His latest project is a fulfilment of his DDOA grant obligation with the promotion a an Arden's Artist Studio Tour. His grant allowed him to share his success with other artists in his Village of Arden, Delaware
