Denise Van Deroef
I am primarily a painter who prefers working with fast drying acrylics and watercolors, but I also paint with oils, pastels and mixed media. My painting style is influenced by the realism of the Hudson River School of the 19th century, French Impressionism, and contemporary American scenic painters and illustrators. I received my art education in northern New Jersey and the NYC metro area. I earned my BFA and teaching credentials from Kean University of NJ, and completed my graduate studies (MA) at Montclair (NJ) State University, and School of Visual Arts in NYC. I was a high school Visual Arts teacher in Morris County NJ for 37 years at Morris Hills High School, retiring in 2009. I painted and exhibited in the Finger Lakes Region of NY State from 2010 until 2020, moving to Newark Delaware in 2021. The Newark Arts Alliance is my main outlet for sharing my artwork. At the Alliance I serve on the Board of Directors, chairing the Main Gallery Committee and teaching a few Painting and Drawing Classes each year. I also accept commissions for paintings and drawings, specializing in portraits and illustrations. I am enjoying discovering the scenic wonders of Delaware, and exhibiting regularly with the Newark Arts Alliance.
