Jarrod Ranney
Jarrod Ranney was born in 1979 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania during the months following the Three Mile Island nuclear accident. He did not stay there long and soon moved to Delaware in 1987 after living in other states. He now lives in Bear, Delaware and uses local places and scenes from his long drive to Greenbelt, Maryland, where he works as a systems administrator, as his inspiration for his oil paintings.
Jarrod attended The Art Institute of Philadelphia. Although he is not a full time artist, his work has gained recognition such as the Faucett Okie Award, given by the Rehoboth Art League to an emerging Delaware Artist in 2010, or a Delaware Division of the Arts Honorable Mention in 2012. Jarrod works in oil paints because he can achieve a more effective and natural texture for his landscapes. Because it allows him to take some time to appreciate the busy, everyday world, he enjoys painting local scenes and surroundings that most people would not naturally notice. Jarrod believes that daily suburban life is often ignored even though there is a great deal of visual poetry associated with it.
Orginial oil paintings, signature prints, and notecards of his work are all available. He also does commissioned work, participates in outdoor shows, and sells his art online.
