Diamond Jim Greene
Diamond Jim's exposure to blues was ignited when he was 8 years old, through a blind Chicago street singer and guitarist Arvella Gray, who Jim saw performing on Ellis Avenue on Chicago's south side. During the mid 1980's, Jim met his mentor John Cephas featuring Phil Wiggins on harmonica and John Jackson and Archie Edwards. Relocating back to Chicago in 1993, Jim spent numerous unforgettable nights after gigs at the home of David "Honeyboy" Edwards absorbing everything. Jim relocated to Delaware in 2022.
Jim has toured throughout Europe and performed on major festivals in the U.S. and abroad, including multiple appearances in the Chicago Blues Festival; the Long Beach Blues Festival; Dresden Blues Festival in east Germany and multiple appearances on the International Blues Festival at Lucerne, Switzerland, among others. He has opened shows for James Cotton, Buddy Guy, Ike Turner, Otis Clay, KoKo Taylor, John Hammond, Duke Robillard, Cephas & Wiggins, Saffire (the Uppity Blues women), Sherman Robertson, Joe Louis Walker, Mississippi Heat, Lonnie Brooks, Sonny Landreth, Ronny Baker Brooks and other well-established blues performers. Jim has 4 CDs, 2 of which are still in print: 'Surrounded' and 'Holdin On'; a new CD is anticipated for release in 2024.
