250 Anniversary Works

I am currently finalizing a book titled Nimble Fingers: The Remarkable Story of a Revolutionary War Fifer. Aimed at readers ages 8 to 12, the book chronicles the war-time adventures of teenage fifer John Greenwood, who has ties to famous events such as the Boston Massacre, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and the Battle of Trenton. After serving in the Continental Army, Greenwood settled in New York City, where he taught himself dentistry. He soon became one of the city's top dentists, and in 1789 a very famous person sought his services--President George Washington. Over the next 10 years, Greenwood made four sets of dentures for the President. Some of these dentures remain on display in museums today. The book's story focuses on Greenwood's war-time service, but the back matter details his enduring accomplishments as a dentist. My presentations describe the contributions that teenagers made in the Revolutionary War and explain fun facts about Washington's dentures and dental practices in Colonial times.
