Joshua Paul Nobiling
Joshua Nobiling divides his work into two categories. The first category is his work as a muralist. Joshua has been comissioned to design and execute large scale murals for clients including the Dover Air Force Base, The city of Dover DE., NCALL, and several private clients. Joshua enjoys the logistical challenges involved with planning and completing large scale murals, each project offering it's own unique puzzle to solve. The subject matter for the various projects ranges from abstraction to realism. Joshua works closely with each client to develop designs based on the client's vision.
The second category is Joshua's personal artwork. This work is an ongoing exploration of his personal style. The artist explains "All of my drawings are simply spontaneous compositions created with line, value and color. I begin with a small mark and the image grows from there. I get a feeling that tells me when a drawing is finished and I never know how long a work will take to complete. I never plan a drawing, so I never know ahead of time what the finished work will look like. There is a thrill in watching the drawing develop over time. The particular materials and processes I use continue to evolve with each effort. The imagery is a combination of my observations from nature, visual obsessions, and art historical influences. I am currently aiming for densely textured compositions that balance harmonious color patterns alongside vaguely grotesque figurative representations." Joshua has expanded his explorations into sculptural works and non representational abstractions.
Joshua Nobiling has been creating art from an early age. The son of a musician father, and a visual artist mother. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a focus on painting drawing and printmaking. Joshua went on to earn his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Delaware with focus on interdisciplinary studio practice. Joshua’s artwork ranges from realism to abstraction to wildly imaginative drawing and prints. He draws his inspiration from nature, art history, literary sources and music.
In addition to his creative endeavors, Joshua has been an arts educator since 2012. He began as an adjunct fine arts instructor, holding positions at Wesley College, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore & Delaware State University. He accepted the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Art at Wesley College in the fall of 2016.
