Ken Segal was born in Philadelphia, PA, in 1959.   He was trained in fine arts throughout elementary  and secondary school, and in 1985 received a BFA in Graphic Design from the Tyler School of Art of  Temple University. While there, he  presented the first portfolio composed entirely of  computer-aided design and animation in that school's history.

For the next  ten years,  Segal wrote Virtual Reality software to convert 2D architectural  blueprints to 3D "Walkthrough Animations" and animated car-crashes for the courtroom.   He wrote for  CADence Magazine for seven years, and co-authored "The AutoCAD  3D Book."

In 1994, he returned to his  first love, painting.   Segal most often portrays a lone figure, but imbues it with rich emotion,  as well as complex background patterns, grids, spirals and "sacred geometry."    He calls his style "Holographic Expressionism," and he has been experimenting with fluorescent (black-light) acrylics on canvas for several years to create brightly-glowing, ethereal light-sculpture.
