Artist Roster

Larry Kelts is a poet who lives in Newark, DE.   He writes poetry in both established and free forms.   His work can be divided into three principle categories:   1. Lyric poetry loosely based on the myth of Orpheus.   Much of this work is published in magazines and journals and is collected in an unpublished manuscript, The Floating Head.   2. A long poem tentatively titled Lost in the Lewis & Clark Water Park.   This poem juxtaposes the 1803"”1806 Lewis & Clark Expedition with Re-enactors in a modern Water Park.   In four years this poem has grown to over 300 pages and is still far from finished.   Some sections from this poem are included in this roster.   3. A more recent project is a series of poems on a Faust-like character in Key West.   Much of Larry’s art has a humorous bent, but always with an underlying serious intent.

Larry received a MFA (1999) from Bennington College, but before this he was a Research Scientist for many years, and this scientific background is beginning to enter his poetry with the Faust Poems.   He is the Delaware Division of the Arts 2017 Emerging Fellow in Literature: Poetry.

In 2016 Larry participated in Literary Readings in Dover (Wesley College) and the Zwaanendael Museum in Lewes, both in conjunction with Currents an anthology from the Cape Henlopen Writer’s Retreat sponsored by the Delaware Division of the Arts.   In November 2016 he was the featured reader at 2nd Saturday Poets in Wilmington.   Larry has led Poetry Workshops at the Newark Art Alliance.

Larry’s poetry has been published in many magazines and journals and in 2014 Foothills Publishing published his chapbook Tatters.
