Maia Palmer is an artist and art teacher who has lived and exhibited her work all around the globe. She works primarily in oils, and has also created community murals, digital works, coloring books, and figurative sculptures. She is interested in capturing the unique spirit of each location that she experiences, finding beauty in everyday and unexpected scenes. Her landscapes and portraits recreate the essence of memories in color, light and texture. For Maia, every work has a sense of nostalgia, telling a story about the people and places that she has known.

Maia received a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in 2002, where she studied painting, drawing, and sculpting. She also intensively studied portrait painting and figure sculpting at La Universitat Politécnica de Valencia. By 2002, her artwork had already been exhibited in China, Spain, and several galleries in Pittsburgh. After graduating, she moved to Hawaii, where she continued to paint, study, and exhibit. Influenced by the Asian culture of Hawaii, she continued her teaching career in Japan. She there studied Japanese and calligraphy before ultimately returning to the U.S. and pursuing her MFA at Washington University in St. Louis.

After receiving her MFA, she began a more community-based practice, creating several collaborative murals with groups such as the St. Louis Center for Survivors of War Trauma, Granite City Sculpture Works, and Parallel Properties in St. Louis. She was also commissioned by the Peace Corps to design their First Annual Global Stewardship Award. She has created two coloring books, A Portrait of Delaware for the Delaware Fun-A-Day exhibition, and Am Tower: Ein Malbuch, for the Interkulturelles Kinder und Elternzentrum AM Tower in Berlin.  Her work can be seen at the Talleyville Frame Shoppe, The Oddporium, Hardcastle Galleries, and in other shows and craft fairs throughout the state.

Maia has taught art at Full Sail University, Wilmington University, Flint Hill School, and is currently teaching art in her hometown of Wilmington, Delaware at Archmere Academy.  She is interested in offering her expertise in community murals, and teaching painting and drawing to the public here in Delaware. Additionally, Maia intends to continue showcasing her Delaware-centric artwork in local galleries to highlight the unique features and interesting people in the area.
