Michael Brook is a finger-style guitarist, singer and composer.  A finger-style guitarist plays multiple parts simultaneously, including melody, bass, harmony, rhythm, and percussion.   The style has been described as "sounds like two guys playing at the same time!"   Michael applies it to swing jazz, 50s-60s rock and roll, R & B, Latin, country and blues.

Michael has played  in diverse venues including libraries, universities, galleries, senior citizen centers, comedy clubs, hotels, and restaurants. He has been described as "one great guitar player" by Rolly Brown, winner of the 1980 National Fingerstyle Championship.

Michael grew up in Chicago, where he played in many different  bands from blues to klezmer. He later moved to Philadelphia and there he won the Philadelphia Magazine  1984 "Best of Philly" award for "Offbeat Entertainment."

Michael has played with tap and belly dancers, fashion models,  and comedians. He also performed in the Constitution Bicentennial radio play, which aired on WXPN-FM.  From 1980-1984 he performed his thematic concert-lecture, "A Social History of 20th Century America through Popular Song," over 50 times. From 2000-2006, he performed with the Newark trio, Swing Samba Soul.

From 2006 to the present, Michael has been composing and songwriting. Some of his products are the theme song for WVUD's "Krazy Kollege," three songs for the Chapel Street Players award-winning production of "Fin and Euba," and "A Night at the Rodeo," an audio slide show sponsored by the Wilmington News Journal. In 2013, he wrote and performed a thematic concert-lecture, "America in Flight," for the Delaware Chautauqua, sponsored by the Lewes Historical Society.

Michael is available to write and perform thematic concert-lectures given one month's lead time. He is also available for collaborations with writers, poets, painters, dancers, actors and directors. And of course, he is always ready to play at festivals, special events, and celebrations of all kinds.

You can hear Michael Brook play at Saint Georges Country Store (www.saintgeorgescountrystore.com) the first Friday of every month.
