Michael Jon Zajic
I enjoy working in a variety of styles including folk art, expressionist, impressionist, abstract and cubist by using color, line and composition to express the essential beauty of the subject of the painting. For me every painting tells a story and has a back story. Always liking to experiment, I have done some digital painting works. My primary style is expressionist colorist, folk art (meaning highly interpretive, to connect to viewer. My goal in painting is to stimulate and delight the mind, senses and imagination of the viewer. Working in more than one style enhances the opportunity of best expressing each particular subject. Originally self taught, I also studied at the Corcoran Gallery School, have participated in some gallery and fence shows and once won a blue ribbon from US Department of Parks. Most of my more than four hundred works, more than half sold into private collections, are in acrylic, with some oil, and oil on acrylic. My main groups of subjects have been inspired by gardens, scenes of people working, the unique beauty of Coastal Delaware, and by travel in Europe and the US.
