Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of Delaware, Dr. Tim Broscious has spent his life on the move, experiencing different music and cultures from around the world.  As a founding member of the Quey Percussion Duo, Tim has performed across the US and throughout the world performing in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, China, France, Jordan, and the UK presenting at music festivals, chamber music series’, and prestigious institutions including the Royal College of Music, the Conservatoire de Strasbourg, the Conservatoire de Lyon, the Conservatory of Tatuí, the University of Rio de Janeiro, the Shenyang Conservatory and the Beijing Conservatory.  In addition to his performing accolades, Tim has also been integral in the creation of over 200 new works through the Quey Percussion Duo Composition Contest and working directly with composers such as John Luther Adams, Stuart Saunders Smith, David Macbride, Emmanuel Séjourné, Alejandro Viñao, Adam Silverman, Casey Cangelosi and Gene Koshinski. His own compositions are published by Bachovich Music Publications.

Exploring his interests in world music, Tim accepted a position at the National Music Conservatory in Amman Jordan where he served as Professor of Western Percussion.  In addition to this teaching position, he also served as principal percussionist and timpanist for the Amman Symphony Orchestra performing for dignitaries including Pope Benedict XVI .  During his time in Jordan, Tim was immersed in Arabic music studying with Nasser Salameh and playing with the conservatory’s Arabic Ensemble performing throughout Jordan, Oman, Bahrain, and Egypt.  In addition, he has studied Haitian, West African, Brazilian, and frame drumming with acclaimed artists John Amira, Joe Galeota, Rogerio Bocatto, and Shane Shanahan.  With these connections, Tim was also able to study West African drumming in Ghana with master drummers at the Dagara Music Center with Bernard Woma, and the Dagbe Cultural Institute with the Agbeli family.

Tim has served as sectional percussionist and assistant timpanist with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Minnesota Ballet, the Lyric Opera of the North, Twin Ports Wind Orchestra, Arrowhead Chorale, and the Big Time Jazz Orchestra to name a few. With a fascination with text and language, as a soloist, Tim has focused on percussion works with text, concentrating extensively on the works of Stuart Saunders Smith and his implementation of text as the rhythmic structure of his works.   His document The Use of Spoken Text in Solo Percussion Works with a Focus on the Speech Songs of Stuart Saunders Smith is the culmination of years of study, practice, analysis, and performance in this medium.

Tim attended Samford University in Birmingham AL where he earned a performance certificate and a BM in Music Education.  After teaching as a high school band director for a year, he decided to return to graduate school studying Percussion Performance at the Hartt School (University of Hartford) earning an MM, GPD, and DMA.
