FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Customary Work Days: Monday – Friday (with occasional evenings & weekends)
Customary Work Hours: Between 7:00am & 7:00pm
WFH Benefit: Available Monday / Tuesday

The Delaware Contemporary (“TDC” A/K/A The Delaware Center for Contemporary Art. Inc) is a non-profit and non-collecting art museum located in the Riverfront district of Wilmington DE with an influence radius of 300 miles around the museum, namely the mid Atlantic region. The TDC Mission is to infuse contemporary art and creativity into our community through compelling exhibitions, dynamic educational experiences, and access to the artistic process. The Manager of Education is a creative thinker, innovative educator, and enthusiastic advocate for the evolution of art and the well being of everyone in the 21st century.
Position Summary:
The Manager of Education, is a full time, 35 hours a week, position that is responsible for educational programing at The Delaware Contemporary. The manager will balance artistic and mission related responsibilities with generating earned income. Innovation, creativity, and collaboration is encouraged.
This position provides outstanding customer service externally and internally. The individual is expected to work as a member of a team of professionals on staff at TDC, where all staff help each other towards shared goals. The position supports TDC’s mission and strategic plan.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and evaluate existing educational programs for effectiveness and update accordingly including:
> a variety of museum programs and workshops for adults, including but are not limited to Figure Drawing, Clay, and Printmaking Workshops.
- Develop and grow new programs, including K-12 and continuing education classes, pre-college programs, workshops, and camps that are based in contemporary art, that may be visual and performative, as well as:
- Ensure educational programs are up-to-date with national standards of learning and, when possible, complementary to age appropriate in-school lessons.
- Seek out, develop and maintain positive relationships and collaborations as a liaison with school administration and teachers, including K-12 and Universities in and outside of Delaware.
- Identify, vet, select and contract all teachers and workshop facilitators, completing and ensuring all check requests and payments are submitted in a timely manner.
- Strive to have artists act as instructors.
- Supervise all teachers and workshop facilitators to ensure programs and educational activities are produced at the highest level.
- With support of coworkers, secure all necessary training and background checks for educators contracted by The Delaware Contemporary for educational programs.
- Ensure all educational spaces are well prepared, organized, with necessary supplies, and maintained in clean, safe, and efficient manor.
- Work with marketing staff to develop and implement marketing strategies for The Delaware Contemporary’s learning programs, both on-site and within the community.
- Work with the development staff in the writing of grants in support of educational programs and preparing final reports to funders.
- Work collaboratively with the curatorial staff so classes/workshops/camps may be related to museum exhibitions.
- Manage the education budget, including all necessary tracking of expenses, and reporting.
- Ensure most educational programs are profitable and sustainable.
- Ensure educational information is communicated internally with staff.
- Maintain proficiency with office work systems and museum policies and procedures.
- Attend, and occasionally present at, staff meetings as needed.
- Attend, and occasionally present at, meetings of the Board of Directors or their committees when requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational or Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in art education, museum education, education, studio arts, arts management or related field.
- At least four years’ experience being responsible for educational programing and the management or coordination of staff or contractors. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Requires occasional work in the evenings and weekends.
- Willingness to engage in cleaning and organizing art classrooms and studios.
- Ability to lift 40lbs.
