Description

Purpose of the Job

The Seasonal Cook is responsible for Food Safety, including the safe storage and preparation of food items, as well as the cleanliness and sanitation of all food storage and prep areas and tools for Freeman Arts Pavilion Canteen operations. The Seasonal Cook is responsible for food safety, quality, presentation, and speed of delivery.

Anticipated Work Schedule

This position works a flexible schedule from May through September. Hours are event driven, requiring a combination of days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Must be knowledgeable about The Freeman Arts Pavilion, it’s programs, venue policies and safety plan and be able to communicate information in a courteous manner

• Support Standards for Excellence accreditation processes and other nonprofit accreditations that further the expertise and effectiveness of the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation

• Implement proper food handling techniques, in accordance with Health Department and ServSafe regulations under the direction of the Food and Beverage Manager

• Assist with weekly inventory of food, beverage & supplies

• Adhere to recipes, portion controls, processes, and presentation specifications set by the Food and Beverage Manager

• Maintain a clean, sanitized, and safe work area throughout shift

• Restock items as needed throughout shift and upon completion of weekly inventory

• Properly and accurately label & date all stored food using Day Dot labels

• Rotate product as needed to adhere to the “First In, First Out” method of storing perishables

• Daily recording of product waste

• Properly use and maintain all Canteen equipment, as well as notify Food and Beverage Manager of any broken, damaged, or improperly working equipment.

• Clean and restock area at end of shift

• Lead cleaning and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers, and all storage areas

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Must be 18 or older.

• 1-2 years professional cooking experience is desired, but not required. Must have a sense of urgency, a passion for service, take pride in cleanliness, appearance, and safety of self and work area, and the ability to work without direct supervision.

• The incumbent must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.

• Must possess a sense of urgency and good time management skills

• Must be able to follow directions, both oral and written

• Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public, other employees, and volunteers

• Must be able to stand and walk for up to 4 hours at a time

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
