The Biggs Museum of American Art is seeking a creative and outgoing Digital Storyteller to shape and share the Museum’s story across platforms. This role blends social media management, video production, photography, graphic design, advertising, and digital strategy, helping us connect with audiences through authentic, engaging, and visually compelling narratives. The Digital Storyteller will collaborate with staff across departments to highlight exhibitions, programs, and community impact while ensuring content is accessible and aligned with institutional goals.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, film/media production, or related field; equivalent professional experience considered
• 2+ years of professional experience in social media management, digital content creation, video/photography, or related field
• Proven skills in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator; Premiere Pro/After Effects preferred)
• Experience managing social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.), including organic and sponsored strategies
• Familiarity with website content management systems (WordPress or similar) and email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact)
• Experience writing for varied audiences across multiple platforms; strong editing and proofreading skills
• Strong on-camera presence with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with accessibility standards for digital content (captions, alt text, WCAG compliance)
• Knowledge of scheduling and analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Later, Buffer, Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics)
• Project management skills with ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines
Organizational Structure: Reports to the Director of Marketing and PR
Schedule: Full-time, exempt, salaried position (40 hours/week). The schedule is primarily weekday hours but must be flexible to include evening and weekend events, with adjustments to weekly schedules as needed. Candidates must reside in or relocate to the Dover, DE area.
Responsibilities
• Work with staff across departments (curatorial, education, development, visitor experience) to identify stories, generate ideas, and create compelling content
• Manage the Museum’s social media channels; develop and implement strategies for audience growth, engagement, and brand alignment
• Film, photograph, edit, and produce short- and long-form content; conduct interviews; appear on camera; engage visitors in storytelling projects
• Create visual assets for digital campaigns and print collateral (posters, brochures, programs, signage) using Adobe Creative Suite
• Assist with updating website content and producing engaging e-newsletters to support exhibitions, programs, and fundraising campaigns
• Draft captions, blog posts, video scripts, newsletters, and marketing copy with strong storytelling and audience appeal
• Capture and share live content during evening and weekend events, highlighting exhibitions, programs, and community engagement
• Build relationships with staff, artists, donors, and visitors to encourage participation in digital storytelling
• Ensure all digital content meets accessibility standards, including captioning videos and adding alt text for images
• Track, analyze, and report on content performance; develop regular dashboards of KPIs and adjust strategies accordingly
• Assist with developing and executing paid campaign strategies; monitor and track ad spend in collaboration with the marketing team
• Other duties as assigned including cross-departmental collaborations, fundraising campaigns, and professional development to stay current with digital trends
Compensation
The position offers a salary range of $40,000 to $50,000 annually commensurate with experience, along with subsidized insurance benefits, IRA match, PTO, and other benefits outlined in the employee handbook.
