Darlington Arts Center (DAC) was founded in 1978 on the unique vision of including all four arts disciplines–music, visual arts, dance, and drama– in one space with an emphasis on multi-disciplinary programming. DAC has served the Delaware and Chester counties and Delaware State communities for over 40 years by fostering programs that provide possibilities and opportunities through the exploration of multi-disciplinary arts. Darlington Arts Center (DAC) seeks skilled artists who have at least one year of teaching experience in Theater or Dramatic Arts for classes at the Center, located at 977 Shavertown Road, Garnet Valley, PA 19060 from January 2026 to June 2026.
Our Academic School Year is from September 2026-June 2026 and our summer program is from June 2026- August 2025.
We are looking to fill the position before January 2, 2026
Required Experience:
- At least 1 year of teaching experience in theater and/or drama for group instructions for children ages 3-17 and/or adults
- A background in theater, musical theater, various genres of drama, etc.
- Experience working with children and adults with various levels and abilities
- Must have clearances (PA Child abuse, FBI Fingerprints, and PA Criminal Background), within the last 5 years (2019). Must have completed before employment can start.
- Must be able to work on Tuesdays.
- Must have reliable transportation to Garnet Valley, PA.
Teaching Artists will:
- Provide excellent instruction. Including:
- Showing integrity in teaching methods and pedagogy
- Helping parents understand the artistic process as well as the finished work that goes home
- Inspiring student excitement and commitment to study
- Treating students and parents with respect and kindness
- Promote Darlington’s mission and programs to students and parents
- Keep an accurate teacher log book, which will serve as an invoice for services
- Communicate with the office in a clear, consistent and timely manner. Including:
- Promptly notifying the Program Manager of any schedule changes
- Responding to phone and email messages within 48 hours
- Distribute communications to families as provided by the administrative office
We evaluate performance using the following metrics:
- Consistent, Prompt Attendance
- Student and Parent satisfaction (collected verbally and on bi-annual surveys)
- Student Retention (across all DAC activities)
- Student demonstration of improved ability and knowledge (as evidenced in their completed work)
- Observation (classes may be observed by the Executive Director or her designee)
- Staff Feedback (regarding regular communication and accurate teacher log)Compensation
This position is a 1099 contracted employee. Darlington hours of operations are from Monday and Wednesday from 10am to 9pm. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 3pm to 9 pm and Saturdays from 9am to 12pm during the Academic Year. During the summer season our hours are Monday-Wednesday, 9 am to 8pm and Thursday- Friday 9am to 5pm. We are looking for someone to teach our afterschool drama program and possibly our new HomeSchool Education Enrichment Program (HEAP) in the mornings (9am to 12pm). This position is onsite at Darlington Arts Center. Starting salary at $35.00 an/hr.
