Before Michigan, she studied English/Creative Writing at Trinity College in Connecticut, where she won a number of awards for fiction and creative non-fiction.

Her fiction recently appeared in the anthologies 50 Over 50 and Currents: Selected Poetry & Prose from the 2014 Cape Henlopen Retreat Writers, and has been published in several literary journals.

In 2010, Tery was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship in Fiction, from the Delaware Division of the Arts. She was chosen as a fiction fellow for the Cape Henlopen Writers’ Retreat, sponsored by the Delaware Division of the Arts and the Delaware State Arts Council, in both 2008 and 2014. She has also been a Resident Artist at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, supported by a grant from the Mid-Atlantic Writers Association.
