Feeling Inspired: The Fiber Art of Charlese Phillips
The Historic Odessa Foundation is delighted to present the exhibition Feeling Inspired: The Fiber Art of Charlese Phillips, opening April 30, and on display through June 30, 2024, in Historic Odessa’s Visitors Center Art Gallery.
The talented Delaware artist Charlese Phillips’ mastery of fiber artistry transcends traditional boundaries, and weaves together a symphony of intricate patterns and evocative motifs. Her multifaceted artworks focus around color, texture and identity. As an artist, Phillips explores her creativity through many artistic mediums including fiber, painting, photography, weaving, macramé, and more. The idea of combining paintings and weavings together brings her artworks to life and allows her formal training and self-taught creative skills to blossom. In constructing each work, she hopes to connect with and inspire viewers. Each piece in the exhibition is a testament to the artist's dedication to her craft, showcasing a rich tapestry of emotions, stories, and cultural influences.
A Maryland native, Phillips graduated from Salisbury University with a bachelor’s in fine arts, focusing in ceramics. She then went on to receive her master’s in education from Wilmington University, and today is a high school art educator teaching digital photography. She is a recipient of the 2023 Individual Artist Fellowship from the Delaware Division of the Arts.
Charlese Phillips will conduct two workshops at Historic Odessa during the run of her exhibition: A Macrame Workshop on Friday, May 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., and a Weaving Workshop on Friday, June 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. Details about these workshops are forthcoming.
