Mark Kaufman Watercolors First Friday
Please join us First Friday, September 6th at the Blue Ball Barn from 5-7pm for a showing of local watercolor artist Mark Kaufman.
Born in North Dakota, Mark Kaufman came of age during the 1960s. A champion for gender equality, Mark paints the female figure in bold colors and energetic strokes, giving the viewer an overwhelming sense of joy. Far from creating emotionless family portraits, Mark blends imagery to explore themes of mythology, literature and philosophy.
A graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Mark’s work has been shown at the New Orleans Art Association International show, GreyCube Gallery, Midatlantic International, CAGO Seascapes, Light Space and Time Open Exhibit, among others.
He is a member of the Baltimore, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia watercolor societies. He chose watercolor as a medium because it is fluid and serendipitous, resulting in unexpected awesomeness at times.
Twenty years ago, Mark was diagnosed with Bipolar Depression. In addition to painting, he is highly visible in the community providing support and advocacy for all those who suffer from mental illness. The bipolar influences a certain amount of his work, more in some collections than in others.
