The Bachelor Collectors: The Arts of Rockwood
Join Rockwood’s stewards through a highlights tour of the museum’s fine and decorative art collections. Each generation that lived at Rockwood, from the 1850s through the 20th century, added important arts and antiques to the house spanning the 17th-20th centuries and originating from Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Two especially important figures in this collection include Joseph Shipley and his great nephew Edward Bringhurst V – instead of marrying they both committed themselves to their aesthetic and cultural interests becoming early art collectors within the region. The tour will end in the conservatory, the best object in the collection, with complimentary drinks.
