The Music of William Lawes and Thomas Weelkes
William Lawes (1602-1645), who was given the title “Father of Musick” by King Charles II, is considered one the most virtuosic composers for the viola da gamba and is particularly known for his “Consort Sets”. Brandywine Baroque presents four of his Sets for six viols along with a selection of madrigals by Thomas Weelkes (1576?-1623) for soprano and viol consort.
Presented by Brandywine Baroque.
