Philadelphia Heritage Chorale Concert at Bent But Not Broken

THE PHILADELPHIA HERITAGE CHORALE (PHC) was created by Dr. J. Donald Dumpson to facilitate more access for the appreciation, participation, and deeper relationship with the choral arts. Our central goals are to engage community singing in ways that inspire each of us to learn from our past and inspire an empowered now by bringing excellence of presentation to a broad range of choral literature with a special commitment to music borne of the African Diaspora. PHC, annually a featured choir for Soulful Christmas at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, performed at Chorus America's National Conference, June 2019. In March 2019, PHC performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Morgan State University Choir, Dr. Eric Conway, director, for the premier of Hannibal Lokumbe’s newest work “Healing Tones.” The PHC sang at the 2016 Democratic National Convention’s official Welcome Gathering, and the 2015 World Meeting of Families

Festival of Families Celebration performance, with the late Aretha Franklin, Andrea Bocelli, Juanes and The Philadelphia Orchestra. The chorale appeared with jazz bassist Christian McBride in the “Movement Revisited.” In 2014, the PHC accompanied Kathleen Battle in “The Underground Railroad.” PHC also sang the world premiere of Hannibal Lokumbe’s powerful work, “Can You Hear God Crying?” with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, which was released on Naxos ArkivMusic in 2014.
