Alternate Firings: Ceramic by Susan Gladstone
This exhibit showcases alternate firings. Examples of pit fired, naked raku, horsehair and saggar fired works will be on display. The beauty of alternate firings is the uniqueness of the finished pieces. Shapes can be duplicated but the firing techniques create one of a kind works of art.
Susan received her Bachelor of Arts from University of Maryland and a Master of Education from John’s Hopkins University. She is past president and member of Potters Guild of Baltimore and past board member of Baltimore Clayworks. She initiated the “Naked Raku Ladies” at the Art Armory of West Palm Beach, Florida where she continues to take classes.
“I remain amazed at the outcome after each alternate firing notwithstanding my experience of potting for 50+ years.”
