FREE CONCERT: Radio Rhythms!
‘RADIO RHYTHMS’ COME TO TRINITY FEB. 16th - Vintage songs offer a Valentine’s Day treat!
The Arts at Trinity will open its 2025 concert season on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 4 p.m., with “Radio Rhythms!,” a program of American pop songs of the 1920s and 1930s, performed by Three for a Song, namely Jennifer Timberlake, soprano, Doug Bowles, tenor, and Alex Hassan, pianist.
“Radio Rhythms!” will take place in Trinity Episcopal Church, 1108 N. Adams St., at Delaware Avenue, in Wilmington. Admission is free.
An “outstandingly talented” trio, according to Michael Feinstein, Three for a Song has performed to standing ovations at major venues such as the Kennedy Center Jazz Club and the Library of Congress, and was recently featured on NPR’s All Things Considered. Three for a Song has recorded on the Rivermont and Footlight labels.
“Alex Hassan, a master of the ‘piano novelty’ style, will be bringing his ‘more-than-10-fingers’ approach to making a piano sound like an orchestra,” said David Simmons, Trinity’s music director, “while Jennifer Timberlake and Doug Bowles will be delivering tunes of the Broadway stage and popular scene with authenticity, raucous fun and romantic sweep.”
“Radio Rhythms” will bring a special focus to the women composers and lyricists of the “Great American Songbook” and also spotlight some forgotten vocal gems composed for movies that never got made or Broadway shows that flopped. The program’s format was inspired by the radio shows of the Tin Pan Alley era.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming the public to a delightful, entertaining and informative event,” Simmons said. “The Arts at Trinity is pleased to offer its concerts free of charge, and is grateful to audience members for their voluntary donations.”
Trinity Church is wheelchair accessible, with designated parking spaces, access ramps on either side of the church complex, and an outdoor elevator. Free parking is available adjacent to the church on N. Adams Street and in the church parking lot on W. 11th Street.
