April Film Series — An Evolving Legacy: Delaware’s Coastal Zone Act
This April, join the Delaware Historical Society for Saturday film screenings celebrating Arab American Heritage Month, Jazz Appreciation Month, and Earth Month. Screenings are available with admission to the Delaware History Museum.
To mark Earth Month, visit us on April 19 at 1 p.m. for a showing of “An Evolving Legacy: Delaware’s Coastal Zone Act.”
The landmark Coastal Zone Act, passed by the Delaware state legislature in 1971, preserved the state’s shoreline, making it off-limits to heavy industrial development. The battle to pass this visionary legislation transformed local environmental awareness into sweeping statewide action, challenging other states and the nation to do the same. This film recounts the act’s origins, its history to date, and the ongoing challenge of balancing industrial development with environmental preservation.
