2nd Annual Hip Hop Cultural Summit

AllHipHop, Guerrilla Republik, and the Delaware Art Museum present the 2nd Annual Hip Hop Cultural Summit, a free family-friendly event celebrating Hip Hop’s role in social justice, change, and civic engagement. Following the success of last year’s event, which drew over 1,000 attendees, this year’s event promises to be even more impactful, with Flavor Flav, co-founder of the legendary group Public Enemy, confirmed as the headliner.

The Hip Hop Summit will offer attendees a rich experience. The Summit includes Hip Hop with a Purpose, a presentation of three dynamic exhibitions. Visitors can explore a captivating photography exhibition by T. Eric Monroe, highlighting Hip Hop’s rich history and cultural influence. Alongside this, a special exhibition from the Victrola Museum celebrates the invention of the record player. Additionally, a showcase of local visual artists will delve into the theme Art of Activism and Social Justice. All three exhibitions will be on view through January 5, 2025. The event will also feature a series of competitive battles, including MC, DJ, graffiti, and breakdancing, judged by nationally recognized and local experts, showcasing the skill and creativity defining Hip Hop as a global cultural phenomenon. Additionally, panel discussions with celebrity guests will explore how Hip Hop continues to drive social change and empower communities through various forms of artistic expression and knowledge. Confirmed Guests:

Flavor Flav: Co-founder of the legendary group Public Enemy.

Chuck Creekmur: Co-Founder of AllHipHop, will facilitate a Q&A with Flavor Flav.

Hakim Green of Channel Live: Co-Founder of 24 Hours of Peace, Green will share his insights on Hip Hop’s influence on education and activism.

Pam Africa: A renowned figure in social justice movements, Pam Africa will speak on the intersection of Hip Hop and activism.

Dr. Yasser Arafat Payne: A respected University of Delaware scholar, Dr. Payne will explore the academic and societal impact of Hip Hop culture.

MC, Breakdance & Graffiti Battle Registration

This year, we’re continuing the focus on Hip Hop, civic engagement, and activism by incorporating Hip Hop element battles in MCing, graffiti, and breakdancing. Battle participants will compete for 1st ($500 gift card), 2nd ($300 gift card), and 3rd ($100 gift card) place prizes in each category. Each battle will have three judges, who are masters of their respective Hip Hop elements. Judges will be announced soon.
