Overglazed: Painted Porcelain by Paola Bari
Porcelain is an artistic medium as well as a material substance. It can be used to represent figures and to tell stories in two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms, and its own materiality can also be made into the subject of artistic expression. The exhibition explores the endless possibilities of working with porcelain. On one side the exhibition will show the basic elements of porcelain artifacts—a ceramic body and glaze. On the other side, the exhibition will focus on the aestheticization of the porcelain object through decoration. Decoration on porcelain includes overglaze colors, luster and precious metals like gold, satin and silver. The artworks in this group are narrative in nature, inviting the audience to contemplating the different uses of porcelain as a pictorial medium.
