Fort Folk Fest
On Friday, August 15, the Friends of Fort DuPont and Delaware Friends of Folk will present the next event in the Fort Folk Fest, a new series of summer concerts at the Fort DuPont Pavilion, 2546 Colter Rd. in Delaware City. The ninety-minute performance will begin at 7:00 pm. The concert is free and open to the public. Bring a blanket or chairs. Food trucks will be available.
The featured act this month is the central Delaware-based trio Mother’s Highway Junction. The local band’s tagline, “the World’s First and Only Original Folk Power Trio,” is both a bit mischievous and a good description of their range of songs and live sound. Many of their tunes are written by band leader Mike Miller, and most of the rest come from the Americana and roots catalog. The band often rearranges these traditional songs into fresh and innovative versions, reminding us that what matters is what’s going on today. MHJ formed in 2018 and has performed across Delaware in a variety of venues. Miller was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Delaware Division of the Arts in 2023, and the band commands a small yet loyal following. The band’s roster is completed by John Kidd on harmonica and vocals, and Bob Hamel on bass guitar.
The Fort Folk Fest concert series is presented by Delaware Friends of Folk. These events are supported by The Friends of Fort DuPont, an organization dedicated to preserving history and enriching community. Delaware Friends of Folk are partially supported by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.
