First State Woodturners: Musical Molinology
One Object exhibition – this kinetic sculpture celebrates the art and science of molinology—the study of mills and mechanical devices powered by natural or human energy. Hand-cranked into motion, this intricate work activates a mesmerizing series of gears, cams, wands, ornaments, and hammers that bring music to life. Designed by the First State Woodturners and awarded Best in Show at the 2015 American Association of Woodturners symposium, Musical Molinology is part sculpture, part instrument. Its wooden marimba plays a custom composition by New York musician Anna Huang, demonstrating the harmony of craftsmanship, engineering, and art. Don’t miss this one-day-only marvel of motion and melody!
