Clare Consavage:
Since I was a young child, I found that as I created art, time and self would melt away. As a young adult, it was this phenomenon that sparked my interest in art therapy. Since then, whether it be while working with children, for organizations, on commissions or for my own challenge & growth, creating art has played a huge role in my life.
I have worked in many mediums to create fine, applied and wearable art. I gravitate to oil paint where I can take the time to lose myself in a painting with detail and realism. On the flip side, when I would like to create in more of an abstract and loose manner, I will use acrylic fluid art techniques. In recent work, I have been combining these two approaches into one piece of art which creates a beautiful balance.
Jenny Davies-Reazor:
Over the last few years, I have been returning again and again to mixed media collage. I am working in a new series, developing mixed media collages on canvas, and mosaics on board.
This series draws inspiration from symbols of transformation: key, butterfly, hand, lotus, snake, labyrinth, acorn/oak. Each of these symbols, in my vocabulary, embody and exemplify change, potential, growth, revelation, and transformation - tangible, and over time.
The mixed media collages are truly mixed media - incorporating collage, stencil, direct mark making, image transfers and the like. My mosaics begin with a hand sculpted ceramic icon as their focal point, and are embellished with found and natural objects as well as custom polymer tiles. It is a true creative journey to explore these evocative motifs in diverse mediums; exploring layers of meaning and layers of material.
Marsha Minutella:
I have always been fascinated by micro-environments and find continual delight in the details found in nature. When I was a young child I preferred going into imaginary worlds where I could create homes and stories for my fantasy creature friends. This series of mixed media pieces uses sheep wool, wire armatures, my own ceramic pieces, and artist made lampwork beads to allow the viewer to dip into their own fantasy world while visiting my imaginary landscapes.
My Marsha Neal Studio ceramic work over the last 25 years has mainly been ceramic beads, focusing on texture, shape and the way that I can utilize ceramic glazes to interact with the surface of each piece. Over the last 10 years I have learned how to wash & dye sheep fleeces through my part-time work through Sarafina Fiber Art and use those materials for their texture and color in my work. My friend Nikki Thornburg has been making glass lampwork beads for years, and her continually evolving designs really speak to me and flow perfectly into my micro-environment landscapes.
