Lead Graffiti
Staffed by Ray Nichols and Jill Cypher, Lead Graffiti straddles the worlds of a working museum and a letterpress testing laboratory. We each have a professional graphic designer's background of over 35 years. THEN we started doing letterpress. Consequently, we're always trying to push the envelope to see what interesting thing letterpress can do next, looking for things that aren't like what others are doing, be it creative or technical.Â
Our studio is 2,200 square feet and is equipped with 2 iron handpresses, 2 Vandercook presses, floor model and table top platens, an Intertype line caster, and all of the supporting materials that support letterpress printing and bookmaking. Our workshops teach you almost anything about letterpress and bookmaking you need to know to get started.Â
- We work hard and play hard together and love to include collaborators of all ages and abilities.Â
- We like conceptually interesting work and we're on the lookout for good ways to break any rules that come to mind.Â
- We believe that because computers don't make mistakes, the random and amazing discoveries that come from working by hand and out of your head just don't happen enough to design students nowadays.
