Morris Library
181 South College Avenue
Newark, DE 19717
Located on the second floor of Morris Library, the Special Collections Gallery is home to exhibitions that highlight rare and unique books, manuscripts, broadsides, periodicals, pamphlets, maps and ephemera from the 15th to the 21st century. It typically offers two exhibitions per year, as well as smaller-scale exhibitions in the nearby Lincoln case.
The materials on view in the Special Collections Gallery often have particular strengths in the subjects of history and Delawareana; science and technology; art and literature; and primary source material, such as political papers and ships’ logs. The Mark Samuels Lasner Collection focuses on British literature and art from the period 1850 to 1900, with an emphasis on the Pre-Raphaelites and writers and illustrators of the 1890s. In 2016, Mark Samuels Lasner generously donated his collection to the University of Delaware where it is part of the Library's Special Collections.
The Special Collections Gallery is part of the UD Library, Museums and Press, which hosts a number of exhibitions and events in its main library and four gallery locations across UD’s Newark campus. Those locations include Old College Gallery, Mechanical Hall Gallery, Special Collections Gallery and the Mineralogical Museum.
