Mélomanie was founded in 1993 by co-artistic directors and ensemble members, Kimberly Reighley and Tracy Richardson (pictured at left). Mélomanie has delighted audiences throughout the East Coast and internationally with 'provocative pairings of early and contemporary works.' Their innovative music collaborations feature guest performers and composers. Currently performing their concert series in Wilmington, Delaware, the ensemble's programs reflect its mission to connect the music of the Baroque with contemporary invention. The ensemble's contemporary repertoire includes World Premieres of compositions written especially for Mélomanie by such composers as Ingrid Arauco, Jennifer Margaret Barker, Christopher Braddock, Kevin J. Cope, David Laganella, Sergio Roberto de Oliveira, Richard Belcastro and Mark Hagerty.Â
Mélomanie is: Donna Fournier, viola da gamba; Ismar Gomes, cellos; Kimberly Reighley, flutes; Tracy Richardson, harpsichords; and Christof Richter, violins. Mélomanie's artists also appear as soloists and with orchestras and ensembles in the region, including the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Reading Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, OperaDelaware, Tempesta di Mare, La Bernardinia Baroque Ensemble, and Le Triomphe de l'Amour. In Fall 2014, Mélomanie was invited to Rio de Janeiro to perform in Compositores de Hoje (Composers of Today), an international festival of contemporary music.
Mélomanie has recorded works of Telemann on Lyrichord Discs and can be heard on Winterthur's benefit CD, Playing in the Garden: Musical Inspirations from the Winterthur Garden (2008). Their first contemporary music CD, Florescence (2011) by Meyer Media, featured five compositions written for the ensemble. Their second contemporary music CD, Excursions (2014), features another five pieces written for and premiered by Mélomanie from composers Ingrid Arauco, Jennifer Margaret Barker, Roberto Pace, Sergio Roberto de Oliveira and Kile Smith. The ensemble is currently recording for their next CD project.
