Sankofa African Dance Company was established in 1994 by the Inner City Cultural League to serve the artistic needs of inner city youth and their families. The dance standards and priorities for the company are developed to exploit and enhance the creative genius of our youth and motivate students to a higher level of academic and moral leadership. Youth 8 to 18 years old constitute members that are trained by professional choreographers and percussion instructors to produce superior artist/performers. Sankofa trains and performs in the Guinea, West Africa mode of dance and percussion instrumentation. Our presentations are basically all the same with variations for different audiences. Sankofa has a repertoire of more than 25 dances and scripts. Our shows are approximately 50 minutes with 8 to 9 pieces. Email rpetersalt@aol.com for more information.
