Bayard Taylor Berndt: Paintings from Private Collections
The Historic Odessa Foundation presents the colorful Brandywine Valley paintings of the 20th century artist Bayard Taylor Berndt (1908-1987).
The exhibit, on view for the first time, features Berndt paintings from private collections, and is on display at the Historic Odessa Visitors Center Gallery now through Sunday, September 7, 2025.
This exhibit highlights the recent gift to the HOF collection of a 1971 Berndt painting depicting HOF’s National Historic Register Pump House of 1770’s. Recognize the familiar and historic landscapes and aerial panoramas that he painted over the course of his 60 year career.
Berndt was intertwined with the local art scene through familiar art educators and artists’ names that include Arthurs, Hoskins, Schoonover, and Wyeth. He became a WPA (Work Progress Administration) artist for the Index of American Design, an art instructor at the Wilmington Academy of Art, and part owner of the renowned Hardcastles art supply and frame shop in Wilmington, Delaware.
A free public reception will be held at the HOF Visitor Center on Thursday, July 24th from 6-8 pm to socialize with HOF members, and collectors of the artist.
Presented by Historic Odessa Foundation.
