Rosemary Connelly
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Rosemary Connelly is a watermedia artist living and working in Milford, Delaware. Playful use of line and color are hallmarks of her painting style. Her layered approach to painting suggests the passage of time and human existence and she finds inspiration in historic towns, aging factories and barns, botanicals, and the beauty of the eastern shore.
In 2019 she was selected to be Rehoboth Art League's 2019 Cottage Tour Artist, creating watercolors for the seven houses on the tour.
Rosemary practices and teaches the art of Watercolor Journaling and Urban Sketching and has taught workshops in New York, Illinois, California, Vermont, at Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania, and all over the state of Delaware including the Delaware Art Museum.
Her work has been included in shows at Peninsula Gallery in Lewes, Station Gallery in Greenville and Biggs Museum in Dover, DE and the Anne Lloyd Gallery in Decatur, IL. Her acrylic painting “Lewes Harbour Marina" was selected to hang in Delaware Senator Thomas Carper’s Wilmington office. She has been juried into shows throughout the state of Delaware, winning awards for her watercolors.
She studied fine art, drawing, painting and graphic design at Arizona State University and Mesa Community College and worked for over 20 years as a professional graphic designer. Two years living and painting in Italy with her late husband fulfilled a dream to “live cheap and make art," living a simple life focused on experiences, not material things. Travel and on-location sketching remain an integral part of her life and work.
She is a member of the Rehoboth and Mispillion Art Leagues, Milton Arts Guild, Urban Sketchers and is a founding member of Urban Sketchers Delaware. She is on the board of Mispillion Art League and Festival Chair for The Big Draw Festival DE, part of an International Festival of drawing and mark-making, celebrated in 25+ countries around the world.
Her memoir "Two Years in Italy" is available on Amazon.com
"Rosemary immediately put me at ease in her watercolor journaling workshop. Her instruction was clear and encouraging. Rosemary creates a wonderful environment that allows everyone to practice and grow at his or her own pace. I came away from the session eager to try out what I had learned. I hope to attend more of her workshops in the future so I can continue to learn from Rosemary and to be inspired by her teaching and by her own beautiful work." PAIGE E., MILFORD, DE
