This fall, join us for the Mitchell Center Cultural Film Series, where we screen documentaries relating to Black history and culture. Screenings will be held on Saturdays at 1 p.m. in September and October and are included with Museum admission.
October 4th -- A Ballerina’s Tale intimately documents the historic rise of Misty Copeland, the first African American principal dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre, while shining a light on the absence of women of color at major ballet companies and exploring how ballet’s emphasis on waifish bodies impacts the health of ballerinas while sending a negative message to young fans.
October 11th -- Creatively animated in Lego form, Piece by Piece is an inspirational documentary that explores the life of Pharrell Williams from struggling student to music industry icon.
October 18th -- With contemporary audio interviews from leading African American artists, activists, musicians and scholars, The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 looks at the people, society, culture, and style that fueled an era of convulsive change.
October 25th -- Faith Hope and BBQ is food for the belly and food for the soul. A delightful, tasty and charming look at a small town, rural Florida, African American “Church built on BBQ.”
