Description: This class will focus on learning the basics of anime/cartoon character design and also teach students how to generate interesting ideas for their art and stories. We’ll use traditional materials such as pencils, colored pencils, inks, and markers, but students are welcome to bring any preferred drawing supplies, including tablets. Students will learn how shape, language, and color work together in character design. We’ll explore different artistic styles and practice breaking characters down into basic shapes and colors. Students will create their own character sheets, develop expression studies, and design outfits for their characters. At the end of the class, everyone will complete an illustration or a small comic strip to introduce their character to the rest of the group.
