Into Light Exhibition Opening Reception

Starting with the Opening Reception on Friday, October 10, 4:00-6:00 p.m., CAMP Rehoboth will be hosting INTO LIGHT, a national art activism project. The project seeks to dismantle the stigma surrounding the disease of addiction and address the misconception that people with addiction are to blame for their illness.

INTO LIGHT will be on display October 10 till the end of November. We invite—and encourage—everyone to view this powerful exhibit.INTO LIGHT Project is a national nonprofit that uses art and storytelling to change how people see drug addiction. The project features original, hand-drawn portraits and personal stories of individuals who died from addiction. Each portrait honors a life lost and helps shine light on the human side of a disease that is often misunderstood.

This powerful exhibition includes up to 30 framed graphite portraits of Delaware residents who died from drug addiction. Each is paired with a written narrative that tells their story — not just about how they died, but how they lived.

Over 100,000 people died from drug-related causes in 2023 alone. Addiction affects tens of millions of Americans, yet stigma, misinformation, and shame still surround the disease. Through this exhibit, INTO LIGHT aims to educate, reduce stigma, and create space for compassion, healing, and meaningful conversation.

As Dr. Nora Volkow of the National Institute on Drug Abuse said,

“The emotional connection experienced through art can be an even stronger argument for changed perceptions on addiction and overdose.”
