BIG BAND: Josh Lee and the Extended Family

‘SWING SOUNDS, SWING MOVES’ COMES TO TRINITY Nov. 2nd

Celebrate autumn with free concert of Big Band song & dance

The Arts at Trinity will continue its 2025 concert season on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m., with an appearance by Josh Lee and the Extended Family, a 15-piece Philadelphia-based ensemble that authentically celebrates the music and dance of the swing era.

“Swing Sounds, Swing Moves” will take place in Trinity Episcopal Church, 1108 N. Adams St., at Delaware Avenue, in Wilmington. Admission is free.

Composed of some of Philadelphia’s hottest jazz musicians, Josh Lee and the Extended Family continues the 100-year tradition of Big Band music, but with a contemporary twist. Band leader Josh Lee is a Grammy Award-winning saxophonist, composer and arranger, a faculty member at Temple and Villanova universities, and a member of the world-renowned Count Basie Orchestra.

Featuring a jazz vocalist and two swing dancers, the performance will be preceded by free Swing Dance Lessons at 3:15 pm. with two professional swing dancers.

“Audience members will be encouraged to stand up and kick up their heels,” said David Simmons, Trinity Parish music director. “We’re looking forward to welcoming the public to a delightful, entertaining and informative event. The Arts at Trinity is pleased to offer its concerts free of charge, and is grateful to audience members for their voluntary donations.”

A selection of seasonal treats and hot/cold drinks will be served before and after the concert.

The Extended Family plays regularly around the East Coast with appearances at the International Lindy Hop Championships (Harlem), the Kimmel Center (Philadelphia), Temple University, the 2023 MAD Jazz Festival (Virginia) and Dizzy’s Club at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Trinity Church is wheelchair accessible, with designated parking spaces, access ramps on either side of the church complex, and an outdoor elevator. Free parking is available adjacent to the church on N. Adams Street and in the church parking lot on W. 11th Street.
