22nd Annual Judged & Juried Exhibit
The 22nd Annual Judged & Juried Exhibit at Mispillion Art League will be on display through October 25. Visit the gallery in downtown Milford to see a diverse collection from local artists. Awards have been given in the following categories: pastel, watercolor, acrylic/oil, fine craft, photography, 3D, and other (pencil, pen & ink, collage, etc.).
Artist Eric Wahl took Best in Show with his mixed media piece titled “How Do You Measure Time?”. The found-art assemblage is a conceptual exploration of time and the human experience. Vintage photos and illustrations evoke whimsical nostalgia. Intertwined are everyday tools like clocks and rulers that reflect our need to measure life. The intricately crafted piece keeps viewers endlessly intrigued.
A landscape architect, Wahl is inspired by nature, architecture, and the balance between the two. He is a multi-faceted artist with a passion for fine crafts like ceramics and jewelry-making, and is always eager to dive into new mediums. Originally from Harrisburg, PA, he has lived in Milford since 2006. He currently works as a landscape architect for a local engineering firm, Pennoni Associates, where he designs spaces in which we work, play, and live.
Wahl has been with Mispillion Art League since 2020, taking over the role as President of the Board in 2022. He passionately aligns with MAL’s values in strengthening the community through art. He says, “Art is everywhere; singing in the car, silly little doodles, the clothes in your closet, the meal on your plate (and the plate itself!).” Additionally, Wahl is the current president of the Delaware Native Plant Society, a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
The exhibition was judged blind by Trudi C. Van Dyke, an independent curator and fine arts consultant, who specializes in exhibitions of fiber and fine craft. She curates arts exhibitions nationally and internationally.
Previously, Van Dyke was the director of the Torpedo Factory Arts Center (Alexandria, VA) and the Ellipse Art Center (Arlington, VA). She also held a position as adjunct faculty member in the Master's in Arts Management Program at George Mason University.
