Small Jewels | Art Exhibition

The 22nd edition of the Peninsula Gallery’s holiday exhibition, “Small Jewels,” returns to Lewes, starting Thanksgiving weekend. Give the gift of handmade beauty this year with an original work of art. Patrons are invited to shop for the holiday season and fall in love with artwork under $500. Purchased pieces can go from the gallery walls to under your tree on the same day, ensuring you have your special present in time for the gift exchange!

An artist reception will be held on Saturday, November 29, from 5 to 6:30 pm. The event is free and open to everyone. Bring your guests, friends, and family to enjoy the wonders of all these miniature paintings while indulging in complimentary nibbles and wine. Attendees will have the opportunity to mingle with some of the participating artists during the evening.

20 artists are featured in this year’s "Small Jewels,” with each artist contributing five original artworks. The exhibitions’s 100 pieces were created by John Aquilino, Al Barker, Kristin Blanck, Anne Buck, Allison Cosmos, Carol Fastuca, Doris Ingram, Matt Johanning, Carol Lehmann, Nancy McIntyre, Damon Pla, J. Stacy Rogers, Steve Rogers, Rebecca Scheuer, John Schisler, Nick Serratore, Sherri Trial, Meg Walsh, Jeff Watson, and Nancy Richards West. Cosmos, Johanning, Lehmann, Scheuer, Walsh, and Watson are new to the show this year.

“Small Jewels” includes works done in a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, gouache, silkscreen, clay, and collage. The landscape, animal, and still life images are primarily presented in realism and impressionism, but some pieces lean more whimsical and surreal. In addition to paintings, the showcase also features sculptural birds and framed 2-D ceramics. Carol Boyd-Heron, gallery co-owner, says, “It gives us so much joy to be able to put on the ‘Small Jewels’ show every year! Clients look forward to this show all year long, waiting with bated breath to see what treasures we have available this year!”
