Echoes - The American Pink Floyd

What’s the cost of fame? This question is at the center of arguably one of Pink Floyd’s best albums.  Wish You Were Here, released in 1975 as the follow-up to Floyd’s legendary Dark Side of the Moon, the album holds a strange place in the catalog.  The band wrote it while struggling with the realities of fame and the pressure to recreate their success of 1973’s Dark Side.  They had trouble finding inspiration and consensus and, by some reports, would not even look each  other in the eye during some studio sessions.  The result was a melancholic album that was one part lament for their fallen comrade, Syd Barrett, and one part vitriolic indictment of the music industry they blamed for Syd’s ultimate demise and their own angst and alienation.
