Rediscover Victorian and other classic literature through the dramatic themes of Empire, Race, Gender and Exploration with Rockwood staff. The Victorians loved their books, and many iconic publications of this time are still relevant today. Bring dinner or snacks to this round table discussion. All ages welcome.
Dec - A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickins: The story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a cold-hearted miser who is transformed after being visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. Through their haunting visions, Scrooge confronts the consequences of his greed and learns the value of compassion, generosity, and human connection.
Jan – Blood Meridian, by Cormac McCarthy: A book detailing the story of a teenager making his way in life in the American Wild West. McCarthy is known for his intensely emotional work and compelling character, come join Rockwood Book Club for this classic American tale.
Feb - Raisin in the Sun, by Lorainne Hansberry: A tale of an African American family in Chicago facing expulsion and inner family conflict in the 1960’s. This story details the still entrenched racial divide of America as well as the strong divide between the generations in the turbulent Vietnam Era.
