Glamour Girls: The Portrayal of Women in World War II Propaganda Posters, Films, and Vogue Magazine
The Milford Museum American History Series continues with a program titled Glamour Girls: The Portrayal of Women in World War II Propaganda Posters, Films, and Vogue Magazine to be presented by Dr. Marguerite Hoyt on Saturday, March 14, 1:00 p.m. at the Milford Public Library in Milford, Delaware. Propaganda is a tool that governments use to direct people to act in a certain way or to emulate certain behaviors. It is not always bad, but it is always biased. Glamour Girls is based on Dr. Hoyt’s research into World War II propaganda posters that depicted women. Ever since people began going to movies, Hollywood has influenced the way women want to dress and style their hair and makeup. The speaker examined imagery from posters, magazines and film to see what effect Hollywood had on government hired graphic artists. It turns out that Hollywood glamour showed up in government posters in sometimes surprising ways, as will be presented in this talk.
