Come and join us at Bellefonte Arts to celebrate the opening of Lowell Sommer's art exhibit on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 5-8pm.

His work will be on display all month during regular shop hours until Sunday, March 29, 2026.

Lowell Sommer was born Jan. 2, 1950 and grew up in poor neighborhoods in Southern California.

During High School he was encouraged to pursue pottery, sculpture and mixed media drawing. Having limited resources he concentrated on pen and ink drawings. Life goes on and after graduation artistic pursuits were replaced with the realities of making a living for a growing family.

In 2023 on an anniversary road trip he was impressed with the colorful patterns of the sea turtles at the Norfolk Virginia Aquarium. As an anniversary gift his wife Donna got him a drawing pad and a set of Shuttle Art drawing pencils. In two years he had over 120 finished original drawings.

Near as we can tell - no finished turtle pieces can be found. 

Oh well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
