New Sweden Day
New Sweden Day: Celebrating Delaware’s First European Colony
Join the New Sweden Alliance and its member organizations for New Sweden Day, a free, family-friendly festival at Fort Christina Park, the landing site of the Swedish and Finnish settlers in 1638.
Through historical interpretation, living history demonstrations, cultural presentations, music, canon fire, and interactive activities, visitors of all ages will explore the story of New Sweden Colony and its encounter with the Lenape. The event highlights the colony’s enduring contributions to the Delaware Valley and its lasting influence on the development of the emerging American nation.
Presented collaboratively by organizations committed to preserving this shared history, New Sweden Day invites the public to discover how this early colonial experiment helped shape the foundations of the country that would follow.
